Darwin
Don’t know what it is about us and airports but this time we were stopped by border control over our medications. It seems that the correct answer to the question about drugs is ‘yes, we have some’. Lecture by a young woman then a don’t do it again and we were in!
2.30 am and there was a fire alarm. It took a good half hour to prove there was no 🔥 then a brief sleep. Oh yes and a phone call from Leeds. PPI?
Note to Laurence:- there is a shuttle bus to the hotel but we took a taxi.

Walked down the WW2 oil tunnels. All I will say is that they are trying very hard. 11$ was a lot of money for a walk to nowhere!
Did the usual tourist bus and hopped off at the museum. Some interesting exhibits about Hurricane Tracey(Christmas day 1974) Old boats, old farming equipment etc. Eclectic to say the least.
Hotel Adina Waterfront is very good. Super new area. Plenty for all ages including kids. Very safe.
Loads of cafes etc.
After another sleepless night we set off at 6.30 for Kakadu. Long journey, rock climbing(slight
exaggeration but felt like it) to see Aboriginal rock art. Declined the second mountain hike. Preferred
to keep company with the multitude of flies!
It is very very hot and humid. Perfect if you are young, fit and mad.
Arrived at campsite. Glad we upgraded to a proper room with air co, own bathroom etc.

Discovered we are not staying here for another night but are going on to a cattle ranch. Hope there are updated rooms or what did we pay extra for?
Off on a river cruise to see crocodiles. Lots of birds and 3 crocs. A sea eagle caught a snake in front of our boat and flew off to eat it.
Then a cultural centre. No photos allowed or buy ours instead.....
Plunge pool proved that Barneys ‘Tough’ waterproof camera wasn’t! Trying to dry it out in dry rice. Only time will tell.
Mount Bundy cattle station, I need the loo. Really off putting to see the notice on the toilet lid “unless you want visitors put the toilet seat down.” Plus a picture of spiders. Glad we were not using those loos at night.
Our upgraded room was a twin bedded room with air con. Across the corridor was a door marked Bulls.
The whole experience was shall we say interesting
and we saw things we would otherwise not have seen. Our guides, Mon and Sean did their best with limited supplies. I think, despite the heat we were there at the best time. It obviously gets very crowded at other times of the year.
The final morning was spent going from water hole to water hole. Could have done without it really.
Kakadu and Litchfield parks well worth a visit.
